German gardening equipment manufacturer AL-KO Geräte has been fully acquired by Ningbo Daye Garden Machinery in a deal worth €20 million.

This move sees the Chinese manufacturer expand its global reach, gaining access to AL-KO’s established brands, European manufacturing bases, and technology development centers. AL-KO is known for producing a wide range of garden tools, including lawnmowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers, under brands like AL-KO, solo by AL-KO, Masport, and Morrison.

What does this mean for AL-KO customers?

AL-KO UK’s managing director, Stewart Anderson, assures customers that the impact of the acquisition will be minimal. “Our dealers will notice very little change following this news,” he states. “Daye is a quality manufacturer and the AL-KO name is not going anywhere.”

Anderson further expressed optimism about the future, believing this deal will strengthen AL-KO’s long-term prospects.

Daye’s strategic move

For Daye, this acquisition represents a significant step in its global expansion strategy. Gaining a foothold in the European market and leveraging AL-KO’s established reputation and infrastructure will likely boost Daye’s presence and competitiveness on the world stage.

The future of AL-KO

While the immediate impact on customers and dealers seems minimal, it remains to be seen how this acquisition will shape AL-KO’s product development and brand positioning in the long run. Will we see a fusion of German engineering with Chinese manufacturing prowess? Only time will tell.
